I'm looking for a Principal Designer (Building Regulations) to join an award-winning fire protection business based in Huddersfield.

What you'll be doing:

Act as Principal Designer under the Building Regulations
Coordinate and manage the design process on refurbishment and fire safety remediation projects, to meet the legal requirements in all buildings including HRB, existing and new build
Ensure that the design work complies with the building regulations through out a project
Manage the collation and communication of design information between clients, contractors, fire engineers, and other duty holders in relation to compliance with the relevant requirements
Review and challenge fire safety design proposals to ensure regulatory compliance and as built
Identify and resolve design risks related to fire safety, access, maintenance, structural integrity, and compartmentation
Support the development of fire strategies, compartmentation drawings, and technical submissions to the Building Safety Regulator (BSR)
Design review of contractor proposals, passive fire protection solutions, and material specifications for compliance statements with fire performance requirements
Act as the main point of contact for design-related matters related to building regulations
Advise clients on their duties under the Building Safety Act and provide assurance on Gateway submissions and Golden Thread documentation.
Contribute to internal technical development, mentoring colleagues, and improving service delivery frameworks
Audit and develop all technical documents leaving the company including surveys
Presenting your expertise externally through social media, CPDs and seminars
Other ad hoc tasks commensurate with the level of the postExperience Required:

Strong working knowledge of the Building Regulations, Building Safety Act 2022
Proven experience acting as or supporting the Principal Designer role in a regulatory or fire safety context
Background in architecture, fire engineering, building surveying, or construction design management
Experience working on refurbishment or fire remediation projects in occupied or high-risk buildings
Familiarity with passive fire protection systems, fire door specifications, and compartmentation requirements
Excellent coordination and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple stakeholdersQualifications:

Level 5 Diploma in Fire Engineering Design or equivalent (or working towards)
Demonstratable competence to PAS 8671
Membership of a professional body (e.g. RIBA, CIOB, IFE, APS)
Experience liaising with the Building Safety Regulator or preparing Gateway submissions
BIM and digital document management capability, especially in support of the Golden ThreadThe salary is £60,000 to £80,000 plus an excellent benefits package including car allowance and annual bonus
