Planning Manager – Major Infrastructure Projects
A leading civil engineering contractor is seeking an experienced Planning Manager to join their pre-construction team in Watford. This is an exciting opportunity for a technically strong planner with an engineering background to shape tender programmes for landmark infrastructure projects while mentoring the next generation of planners.
Responsibilities for the Planning Manager:
* Develop and manage tender programmes and methodologies for major civil engineering projects.
* Interpret specifications and drawings, applying engineering judgement to build programmes from first principles.
* Identify risks and opportunities, preparing robust time-risk allowances and supporting tender risk registers.
* Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors, evaluating quotations and proposed methodologies.
* Lead the resource and cost loading of programmes in collaboration with the estimating team.
* Communicate programme proposals clearly to internal teams and external stakeholders.
* Mentor and develop junior engineers into planning professionals.
Requirements for the Planning Manager:
* Minimum 10 years’ experience in civil engineering, with strong planning and pre-construction knowledge.
* Proven ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications independently.
* Skilled in planning software such as Primavera P6, MS Project, Asta, or equivalent.
* Excellent communicator, proactive and collaborative in delivering high-quality tender submissions.
Package:
£75k + Car allowance, private healthcare, and hybrid working (typically two days from home).
