Estate Quantity Surveyor
Cowdray is a historic and diverse rural Estate set in the heart of the South Downs National Park. Best known as the home of British Polo, Cowdray also comprises a wide range of heritage properties, commercial enterprises, and community assets. We are now seeking an experienced and motivated Estate Quantity Surveyor to join our Works Department.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the careful stewardship of the Estate’s unique buildings, landscapes and assets, playing a key role in their repair, conservation and development.
The Role
The Estate Quantity Surveyor will have a dual role working with both the Estate’s in-house building contractor and external third-party contractors. Key responsibilities include:

Acting as Contractor’s QS for in-house projects: preparing cost plans, quotations, bills of quantities, budget estimates, and obtaining subcontractor/supplier costs.

Acting as Client-Side QS for external contractors: providing pre-contract services including cost planning, tender documentation, contractor selection, tender analysis, and contract preparation.

Producing resource plans, cashflow forecasts, and project programmes.

Administering contracts, including site inspections, issuing instructions, interim valuations, certifying payments, and managing claims.

Monitoring project progress, budgets, and variations, providing regular reports to Senior Management and reconciling projects at completion.

Ensuring works are delivered to the highest standards of quality, design, and compliance with specifications, CDM Regulations, Health & Safety legislation, and statutory requirements.

Maintaining accurate project records, certificates, and documentation.

Providing regular management reports and attending team meetings as required.

Building strong relationships with colleagues, contractors, consultants, and stakeholders, ensuring collaboration and professionalism at all times.
What we’re looking for
-
Degree (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying or related discipline
-
5+ years’ construction industry experience

Proven skills in estimating, contract administration, and project management

Experience working with historic buildings and conservation techniques

Strong communication and IT skills
-
Full UK driving licence and own vehicle
Desirable: Professional membership (RICS, CIOB, CABE), project/conservation qualifications, and knowledge of specialist software.
