M&E Design Manager

We are seeking an experienced and ambitious M&E Design Manager on their behalf to join their senior team. This is a pivotal role with a clear and defined pathway to a Director-level position for the right candidate.
Job Summary
The M&E Design Manager will be the crucial link between the office-based design teams and on-site project delivery operations. You will take ultimate responsibility for the management and coordination of all mechanical and electrical design aspects, ensuring designs are fully coordinated, buildable, compliant, and delivered on schedule and within budget. Your role will be instrumental in driving technical excellence and seamless integration from concept through to commissioning and handover.
Key Responsibilities
* Design & Technical Leadership:
Lead and manage the M&E design process for all projects from the pre-construction phase to final completion.
Thoroughly review and critique consultant and subcontractor designs for compliance, buildability, and value engineering opportunities.
Chair and lead design team meetings, workshops, and coordination sessions to resolve technical issues.
Act as the primary technical advisor for all M&E matters within the business.
* Site & Office Integration:
Serve as the main point of contact for site teams, effectively translating design information and resolving on-site technical queries (RFIs) promptly.
Conduct regular site visits to monitor installation progress against design intent, ensuring the highest standards of quality are maintained.
Provide technical support during the commissioning and handover phases, ensuring a smooth transition to the client and end-user.
* Project & Commercial Management:
Collaborate closely with Project Managers and the commercial team to develop and manage M&E design programmes.
Identify and mitigate potential design-related risks to project timelines and budgets.
Assist in the procurement of M&E packages, including the technical review of subcontractor tenders and proposals.
* Quality & Compliance:
Ensure all M&E designs comply with current regulations, legislation, and industry best practices (e.g., Building Regulations, CIBSE, BSRIA, HTMs/HBNs).
Oversee the management of all M&E design documentation, including drawings, specifications, and technical submittals.
* Team & Strategy:
Mentor and support junior engineering and design staff.
Drive innovation by championing new technologies, sustainable practices, and modern methods of construction.
Contribute to the company's strategic growth and help to shape the future of the design function.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Experience: Demonstrable experience as an M&E Design Manager, Senior M&E Coordinator, or Senior M&E Project Engineer within a contractor or consultancy environment.
Technical Expertise: A strong technical background in either Mechanical (HVAC, Public Health) or Electrical (LV Distribution, Lighting, Fire & Security) building services, with a comprehensive understanding of both disciplines.
Qualifications: A degree or HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Building Services Engineering.
Software Proficiency: Competent in the use of relevant software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and Navisworks.

In-depth knowledge of BIM processes and standards.
