Design Manager / Design Review Engineer
Design Manager / Senior Design Coordinator / Design Review Engineer – Leading Civil Engineering Company – Kent
My client is a well respected and long-established Civil Engineering Company.
They are currently searching for a Design Manager to work in their Southeastern region which predominantly focusses on the Counties of Kent, East & West Sussex, South London and Surrey.
This is a hybrid role whereby the successful individual will be able to work between their home address and the company’s regional offices located near Maidstone.
Responsibilities To Include but not solely restricted to the following
* Engage with the Client, Project Management and Design teams.
* Involvement with the design at an early stage, including attending design meetings as required and make changes to improve the design where appropriate.
* Provide necessary ECI input as required and directed.
* Assist the Contract/Project Managers with pre-contract evaluations, setting up the site, highlight potential problems with existing utilities/services, preliminary traffic management plans, programmes etc. Produce diagrams and sketches (PDF & AutoCAD) to back up as necessary.
* Request the appropriate information from the Client's representative via RFI's and CC’s.
* Appraise the drawings for buildability and notify those responsible for change.
* Liaise with site construction team and suggest/collate ideas for value engineering and design improvements.
* Produce sketches and proposals for incorporation/alteration by the designers (give them the solution that Breheny need, don’t wait for the designers to eventually come up with the wrong solution).
* Ensure clear communication and transit of information to members of the site team (Agent, Foremen, Engineers, Q.S.) and the Clients Project & Design teams.
* Collate as-built information including survey department drawings for inclusion in Health and Safety File.
* Drawing and document control and contract filing onto the Breheny server in liaison with the Breheny drawing department.
* Ensure site teams have the latest drawings in both PDF and AutoCAD.
* Assist Project Manager/Site Agent with site records/data base input as appropriate.
* Report any safety/quality/environmental incidents or non-conformances to Project Manager/Site Agent/General Foreman.
* Support Site Engineers and Surveyors to acquire setting out information from Designer (3D AutoCAD/comma delineated etc.), sketches and drawings.
* Attend site progress meetings as required.
* Assist the Client and Breheny team with the discharge of Planning Conditions.
* Assist the estimating department with drawings, plans and sketches at tender stage.
* Assist the pre-contracts teams with planning and programme construction/
* Provide assistance to the commercial team with back up information, drawings etc.
* Eliminate health and safety risks in the design.
* Develop the design and the build processes to reduce financial risks during construction.
Qualifications/Skills
Min HNC qualification and extensive knowledge and experience of all types of major construction works.
Min basic AutoCAD skills.
IT literate.
Good communication skills.
Pro-active problem solver.
Must be able to manage a team of review engineers.
Good forward planner and excellent motivator of less experienced staff.
Have good people skills and the ability to present ideas effectively and to be able to evaluate the ideas of others whilst in meeting.
