Elvet Recruitment are seeking a Materials Controller to join a client based in the Teesside region.

We are looking for a Materials Controller to oversee the procurement, receipt, storage, distribution, and tracking of materials on a project in Teesside.

The Materials Controller will play a central role in managing materials and equipment throughout the project lifecycle. This includes ensuring that deliveries are correct, stored appropriately, and remain fully documented and compliant with project requirements. The position works closely with procurement, logistics, engineering, and construction teams to support schedules and cost efficiency.

What You’ll Be Doing:

* Keep accurate records of all materials, equipment, and tools moving in and out of stores.

* Check deliveries against orders and specifications, including verifying test certificates.

* Maintain full traceability of items such as pipes, valves, fittings, and welding consumables through tagging, documentation, and correct storage.

* Update and maintain registers, stock levels, and inventory reports.

* Work with procurement, site teams, and logistics to make sure the right materials arrive when needed.

* Forecast upcoming material requirements with engineers and supervisors to prevent delays.

* Liaise with suppliers and transport companies to monitor deliveries and resolve any issues.

* Support quality teams to ensure inspection and testing of materials before site release.

* Apply safe handling and storage practices to avoid loss or damage.

* Use systems such as SAP, Oracle, Maximo, and Excel to monitor stock and generate reports.

* Prepare material status and take-off reports to assist management and cost control.

What We’re Looking For:

* 3–5 years’ experience in a materials control role within construction, engineering, or energy-related industries.

* Knowledge of relevant materials including pipes, flanges, valves, coatings, and welding consumables.

* Confident user of ERP/MRP systems alongside Microsoft Office.

* Strong organisational and communication skills.

* Experience with material take-offs and requisitions.

* Valid Telehandler licence and CSCS card.

* Proficient in Excel.

* Familiarity with traceability systems such as heat numbers, certificates, and weld mapping.

* Understanding of logistics for large-scale materials used in heavy engineering or construction projects.
