MEP Commissioning Engineer

Our Client provides specialist mechanical and electrical testing, commissioning, validation, verification and other associated services to customers throughout the UK. Since 2010 the company has carried out works for commercial office landlords and tenants, design and build contractors, developers and property owners. Their highly skilled team have a wide range of experience and have worked on some of the UK’s most innovative projects.

The company expects their Commissioning Engineers to ensure that all MEP (Mechanical, Electrical and Public Health) systems are commissioned safely, efficiently, and to the design intent, ensuring optimal operation, integration and compliance with project specifications and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

* Plan, execute and oversee the commissioning of MEP systems, including HVAC, lighting, power, BMS, fire alarms, plumbing, and drainage.

* Coordinate with installation teams, subcontractors, design consultants, and the main contractor to develop and implement commissioning plans.

* Produce and maintain commissioning documentation including method statements, test scripts, test results, and commissioning programmes.

* Perform functional performance testing and pre-commissioning activities (e.g. pressure testing, flushing, equipment energisation, etc.).

* Troubleshoot and resolve MEP system issues identified during commissioning.

* Ensure all systems are tested and commissioned in accordance with current standards (BS, CIBSE, BSRIA, etc.).

* Participate in witness testing with clients, third parties and certifying bodies.

* Handover systems with complete commissioning documentation and O&M manuals.

* Ensure health and safety regulations are adhered to during all commissioning activities

Qualifications and Certifications:

* NVQ Level 3 or higher in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).

* ECS/JIB Card (Technician or Approved Grade).

* CSCS or equivalent site safety certification.

* SMSTS or SSSTS (desirable).

* Relevant commissioning certifications (e.g. BSRIA Commissioning Management training, CSA Grade 3 or higher).

* PASMA/IPAF (advantageous).

Skills & Experience:

* Proven experience commissioning complex MEP systems in commercial, residential, healthcare and/or industrial environments.

* Strong understanding of BMS integration, controls strategy, and mechanical/electrical system interactions.

* Familiarity with project commissioning tools (e.g. CxAlloy, Komply, Zutec).

* Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical schematics and technical drawings.

* Excellent documentation and reporting skills.

* Strong communication and coordination abilities across multi-disciplinary teams.

* Proactive, problem-solving mindset with a focus on quality and compliance.

In addition to fully trained Commissioning Engineers, the company is also happy to consider applications from Junior Engineers looking to gain further knowledge and qualifications in specialist commissioning.
