Planning Technician (Architecture)

My client are looking for an Architectural Planning Technician to support the development and coordination of architectural plans and planning applications. The successful candidate will assist in the preparation of technical drawings, layouts, and documentation for planning and building approvals, ensuring compliance with local zoning laws, building regulations, and architectural standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Prepare detailed architectural drawings and planning documentation using CAD and BIM software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp).

Assist in the development and submission of planning applications, including design and access statements, site plans, and supporting visuals.

Interpret planning policy and local development guidelines to ensure all design proposals comply with regulatory requirements.

Conduct site analysis, research zoning and land use regulations, and contribute to feasibility studies.

Liaise with architects, planners, engineers, and local authorities to ensure the coordination of planning information and applications.

Assist in the production of presentations and reports for clients, planning boards, and public consultations.

Maintain project documentation and records in line with company and regulatory standards.

Support sustainable and inclusive design principles in all planning activities.

Requirements:

Education & Experience:

Diploma or degree in Architectural Technology, Architecture, Urban Planning, or a related field.

2+ years of experience in an architectural or planning technician role (preferred).

Knowledge of UK planning system and building regulations (or adapt to local context as needed).

Technical Skills:

Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office.

Experience with GIS tools or 3D visualization software (e.g., SketchUp, Lumion) is a plus.

Strong understanding of technical detailing, planning legislation, and urban design principles.

Soft Skills:

Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work independently.
