About the Company
A leading civil engineering and groundworks contractor, delivering complex enabling, drainage, earthworks, and concrete packages for residential, commercial, and infrastructure projects. With a strong reputation for delivering high-quality projects safely, on time, and to budget, the business is expanding its commercial team with the addition of a Senior Estimator.
The Role
As Senior Estimator, you will take ownership of tendering and pre-construction activities across multiple groundworks and civils packages. Working closely with directors, project managers, and the commercial team, you will play a pivotal role in securing profitable work, building strong client relationships, and supporting the company’s continued growth.
Key Responsibilities
Manage the full tendering process for groundworks and civil engineering projects.
Analyse drawings, specifications, and contract documents to prepare accurate estimates.
Lead bid submissions, including tender queries, preliminaries, and risk analysis.
Conduct site visits and liaise with clients, consultants, and subcontractors.
Prepare bills of quantities, take-offs, and cost breakdowns.
Negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors to secure competitive rates.
Provide cost planning and early-stage budget advice to clients.
Oversee handover to the delivery team, ensuring all tender information is transferred effectively.
Mentor junior estimators and support their professional development.
Contribute to strategic business development by identifying opportunities and building relationships with key clients.
Requirements
Proven track record as an Estimator in groundworks and civil engineering.
7+ years’ estimating experience, ideally within a subcontractor environment.
Strong knowledge of earthworks, drainage, roads, reinforced concrete, and associated civils packages.
Excellent understanding of NEC and JCT forms of contract.
Strong commercial acumen with the ability to assess risk and drive profitability.
Proficiency with estimating software (e.g. Causeway, Conquest, Candy) and Microsoft Office.
Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tenders simultaneously.
