About the Role
A leading Tier 1 civil engineering and construction contractor is looking to recruit an experienced Section Engineer to join their team on a major infrastructure project at Manchester Airport. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the safe and efficient delivery of a high-profile aviation project within a live operational environment.
As a Section Engineer, you will be a crucial part of the Site Operations Team, ensuring that construction works are delivered to the highest standards of safety, quality, and programme requirements.
Key Responsibilities

Manage engineering activities on-site including setting out and quality checks.

Lead and supervise Site Engineers and support their development.
*
Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality management systems.
*
Interpret and implement construction drawings and specifications.
*
Maintain accurate site records, diaries, and documentation including inspection test plans (ITPs).
*
Oversee and monitor subcontractor work to ensure alignment with project requirements.
*
Liaise with the design team, client representatives, and subcontractors.
*
Prepare and implement permits including Permit to Dig, Hot Works, and Confined Space Entry.
*
Carry out inspections, risk assessments, and maintain as-built records.
*
Contribute to programming and planning, including two-week lookahead schedules.
*
Promote and engage in behavioural safety practices on site.
*
Manage works around live operational areas with a strong focus on minimising disruption and adhering to airport security and safety protocols.
Required Qualifications & Experience
MEng / BEng / HND / Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
Minimum 3 years of experience in civil engineering, ideally with experience in airport, infrastructure, or complex live environments.
Strong working knowledge of setting out (using total stations, GPS, and laser equipment).
Proven experience managing or mentoring junior engineers.
Demonstrable understanding of temporary works, permits, safety documentation, and environmental controls.
Competent in AutoCAD and data management tools (NRG, MX, Genio, etc.).

Additional Requirements
Full UK driving licence.
Must be able to pass airport security clearance.
Relevant safety training qualifications (e.g., Confined Space, Permit to Dig, First Aid) preferred.
