Overview
An established civil engineering contractor is seeking two General Foremen to join a growing multi-disciplinary team delivering projects across the South West. The role will be based primarily in Bridgwater, with flexibility required for working away as projects demand.
The company has a long-standing reputation in the civil engineering sector, delivering high-quality infrastructure schemes with a strong focus on safety, innovation, and professional development.
Role Purpose
As a General Foreman, you will be responsible for managing and coordinating site operations, ensuring the effective use of labour, plant, subcontractors, and materials to achieve project delivery within programme and budget.
You will be working on the Wales & Western CAM Framework for Network Rail, undertaking railway maintenance works including civils and earthworks.
Key Responsibilities

Conduct site inductions, daily briefings, and inspections, recording any changes to work methods or site conditions.

Supervise, organise, and motivate site operatives and subcontractors to maintain productivity and quality standards.
*
Ensure a full understanding of project objectives, programmes, and drawings, updating progress weekly.
*
Promote and enforce site safety standards and environmental policies, encouraging a strong safety culture.
*
Maintain accurate site records, daily returns, and variations, reporting to the Site or Project Manager.
*
Liaise closely with the management and engineering teams to communicate progress and resolve site issues.
*
Identify training needs and review competencies of team members to support development.
*
Undertake any additional duties reasonably required by the project team.
About You
Essential:
*
Proven experience working on civil engineering or earthworks projects (rail experience highly desirable).
*
Experience supervising and motivating site teams.
*
Strong safety awareness and leadership qualities.
*
SSSTS certification (essential).
*
Excellent planning, organisational, and communication skills.
*
Positive, professional attitude with a commitment to delivering quality.
*
Flexibility to work away from home, including nights and weekends as required.
Desirable:
*
PTS (Personal Track Safety) certification.
*
First Aid at Work qualification.
*
COSS qualification.
*
Machine operation experience/tickets.
Additional Information
Applicants should ideally be located within one hour’s drive of Bridgwater due to site and depot requirements.
