Assistant Quantity Surveyor
Our client are seeking a proactive and detail-orientated Assistant Quantity Surveyor (AQS) to join a fire protection company based in Surrey. This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop your career within a specialist sector of the construction industry, focusing on the financial and contractual management of fire stopping, fire compartmentation, and passive fire protection projects. The successful candidate will work closely with the Senior Quantity Surveyor and Project Management teams, contributing to the efficient delivery of projects from inception to final account.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
The AQS will support the commercial team with various tasks essential for project financial control and contractual compliance.
Financial Management Support

Cost Monitoring: Assist in monitoring project costs, comparing actual expenditure against budget, and identifying variances.

Procurement: Aid in the preparation of tender documents, evaluation of subcontractor and supplier quotes, and issuing subcontracts and purchase orders.
*
Valuations and Payments: Support the preparation of interim and final valuations, including site measurement and collation of necessary documentation, for submission to the client. Assist in processing subcontractor payment applications and preparing payment certificates.

Reporting: Prepare accurate monthly cost reports, cash flow forecasts, and commercial summaries for management review.
Contractual and Administrative Duties

Documentation: Maintain comprehensive commercial and contractual records, ensuring all documentation is filed and easily accessible.

Change Management: Assist in the preparation, submission, and agreement of variations and change orders, ensuring all additions or deductions to the scope of work are accurately valued and recorded.

Risk and Opportunity: Help identify commercial risks and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle and assist in developing appropriate mitigation strategies.

Site Liaison: Attend site meetings as required to understand progress, address commercial issues, and conduct necessary site measurements for valuations.

Subcontractor Management: Support in managing subcontractor accounts, ensuring adherence to contract terms and monitoring performance against agreed deliverables.
Essential Requirements

Education: A relevant degree or HND in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management (or equivalent experience).
*
Experience: Previous experience (e.g., placement, internship, or entry-level) in a Quantity Surveying role, ideally within the construction or M&E sector; experience with passive fire protection is a distinct advantage.

Skills: Strong numerical and analytical skills, excellent attention to detail, and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).

Location: Must be based near or willing to commute to the Surrey office and travel to project sites as required.
