Position Overview
As aStructural and Architectural Steel Estimator, you will play a key role in shaping the financial and strategic success of our steel projects. Leveraging your extensive industry experience, you will lead the estimation process from concept through bid submission, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and competitiveness in all project estimates. You will also mentor junior estimators and contribute to a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Manage incoming quote requests to team members based on their expertise and workload.
Track and communicate quote deadlines to senior management, ensuring all submissions are completed on time and within client return periods.
Lead the preparation of detailed and accurate cost estimates for structural andarchitectural steel projects, covering materials, labour, equipment, and subcontractor components.
Review and interpret project specifications, blueprints, and drawings to define scope and requirements.
Collaborate with project managers, engineers, architects, and clients to gather essential project data and align on technical and commercial objectives.
Identify and evaluate cost-saving opportunities and value engineering options to enhance project efficiency and competitiveness.
Oversee bid preparation and submission, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and competitiveness in all tenders.
Stay current with industry trends, material pricing, and advancements in fabrication and construction technologies.
Support contract negotiations and assist in material procurement as required.
Monitor ongoing project performance, adjusting estimates as necessary to reflect scope or condition changes.
Mentor and support junior estimators, promoting knowledge sharing, skill development, and professional growth within the team.
Qualifications
Minimum 5 years’ experience as a steel estimator within the Architectural and Structural Steel industry.
Strong understanding of steel components, fabrication processes, and construction methodologies.
Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, AutoCAD, MS Excel, and other relevant tools).
Exceptional analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
High attention to detail and accuracy in all aspects of estimating and reporting.
Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
Proven ability to mentor, guide, and develop team members.
Capable of working both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
