Mechanical Design Manager – Data Centre (Consultancy Background | Fully Remote)
Location: Fully Remote (UK-based)
Contract Rate: £500 – £600 per day (Outside IR35 potential)

Join one of the UK’s most respected data centre specialists, a company that has built its reputation on engineering excellence, reliability, and cutting-edge delivery. Known for designing and delivering secure, high-performance data centre environments across the UK and Europe, they are trusted by some of the world’s most demanding clients for their technical depth, attention to detail, and innovation-first approach.

This is a fully remote contract opportunity for a Mechanical Design Manager from a consultancy background with strong data centre experience. You’ll take full ownership of mechanical design delivery — leading multidisciplinary coordination, ensuring technical compliance, and guiding the project from early design through to construction and commissioning support.

If you’re seeking a role that combines complex technical challenges with flexibility, autonomy, and career-defining exposure, this is the one.

* Develop, review, and manage designs for HVAC, chilled water, DX systems, CRAC/CRAH units, ductwork, and air distribution systems.

* Interface with internal engineering teams, consultants, and clients to ensure seamless delivery of mechanical systems.

* Provide technical leadership and ensure compliance with ASHRAE, CIBSE, and British Standards.

* Manage the design process from concept through to IFC, ensuring design intent, performance, and resilience objectives are met.

* Drive energy efficiency, sustainability, and resilience across all design deliverables.

* Collaborate closely with electrical, CSA, and commissioning teams to ensure full integration of MEP systems.

* Conduct and chair design coordination meetings, risk workshops, and technical reviews.

* Lead value engineering initiatives, optimising performance while maintaining reliability and uptime requirements.

* Mentor junior engineers and promote a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.

Key Requirements

* Strong consultancy background, with experience managing multidisciplinary design delivery.

* Proven track record in data centre mechanical design (hyperscale, colocation, or enterprise).

* Deep understanding of mission-critical mechanical systems – redundancy (N+1, N+2), resilience, and uptime.

* Strong knowledge of HVAC system design, chilled water systems, and advanced cooling technologies.

* Excellent understanding of British Standards, ASHRAE, CIBSE, and other international design codes.

* Familiarity with design tools such as Revit, AutoCAD, IES, Hevacomp, Navisworks, or equivalent.

* Exceptional communication skills with the ability to lead remote teams and manage client interfaces.

* Self-driven, technically strong, and able to operate effectively in a fully remote environment.
