Trainee Quantity Surveyor
The role & about the client:
On behalf of our client, ITS Construction Professionals South are recruiting for a Trainee Quantity Surveyor to join a reputable residential contractor. This client is looking for a permanent candidate who is ready to learn on the job and can be based in the Southampton area.
Key Responsibilities:
Support in preparing cost estimates for the projects
Help develop budgets for construction phases (labour, materials, subcontractors)
Assist in preparing bills of quantities from drawings/ specifications
Perform quantity take- offs from architectural and engineering drawings.
Assist in preparing detailed measurements for tendering and procurement
Help with obtaining quotes and pricing from subcontractors and suppliers
Support the preparation and issuing of tender documents
Maintain procurement schedules under supervision.
Track project costs and compare them against budgets.
Maintain records of variations or changes to scope.
Assist in preparing cost reports and updates for senior QS or project manager.
Help prepare and review subcontractor agreements.
Support in valuing and processing interim payments/ applications for payment
Visit sites regularly to monitor progress and assess completed works.
Observe and learn how commercial decisions are made on-site
Attend training sessions, internal meetings, and mentoring sessions.
Help maintain accurate project records, correspondence, and cost data. The ideal candidate will have/be:
Currently studying or recently completed a degree in Quantity Surveying
A clear interest or passion for residential construction
Understanding of construction process and terminology
Confident with numbers, measurements and basic data analysis
Comfortable using Microsoft Excel and willing to learn industry- specific software
Good written and verbal communication for liaising with Contractors, site team and clients
Ability to keep accurate records, follow processes, and manage time effectively. Please send an up-to-date CV in strict confidence.
