Job Title: Carpenter / Multi-Trader (Social Housing – Kitchen Fitting)
Location: Southampton
Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Carpenter / Multi-Trader to join our social housing maintenance and refurbishment team. The role primarily involves kitchen installations within occupied and void properties, ensuring all works are completed to a high standard, on time, and in line with client specifications and safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
* Carry out kitchen installations including unit fitting, worktops, pelmets, plinths, cornices, and all associated finishing work.
* Undertake a variety of carpentry tasks such as door hanging, skirting, architraves, boxing-in, and shelving.
* Strong multi-trade abilities, including plumbing, tiling, and plastering where required.
* Conduct pre-works inspections to identify materials, measurements, and potential property-specific issues.
* Work collaboratively with site managers, tenants, and other trades to ensure smooth project delivery.
* Ensure all work complies with health and safety policies, building regulations, and client quality standards.
* Maintain accurate records of completed works, materials used, and any variations or additional tasks required.
* Deliver high-quality workmanship with minimal snagging and strong attention to detail.
* Represent the company professionally when interacting with residents and clients.
Skills & Experience:
* Proven experience as a Carpenter / Multi-Trader within social housing or similar refurbishment environments.
* Strong kitchen fitting experience – including layout adjustments, unit scribing, and appliance integration.
* Good understanding of building maintenance, H&S compliance, and CDM regulations.
* Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and schedules.
* Excellent communication and customer service skills, particularly when working in occupied homes.
* Capable of working independently or as part of a team to meet tight programme deadlines.
* Competent use of smartphones/tablets for job management and reporting tools (e.g., Excel, Forms, or app-based systems).
Qualifications & Requirements:
* NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Carpentry & Joinery (or equivalent experience)
* Valid UK Driving Licence
* CSCS card (desirable)
* Ability to pass a DBS check
