Responsibilities
As an Assistant Planner, you will work closely with experienced planning professionals to ensure the successful delivery of major projects. Your key responsibilities will include:
* Supporting Planners and Senior Planners in developing and managing realistic and contractually compliant construction programmes.
* Assisting with the preparation and maintenance of NEC3/NEC4 programmes, ensuring alignment with contractual requirements.
* Monitoring site progress, gathering data, and preparing reports to support monthly performance updates and client communications.
* Contributing to the review of compensation events and variations, compiling evidence and programme details for contractual submissions.
* Supporting project and commercial teams with programme-related insights for cost and resource planning.
* Assisting in the creation of tender programmes and supporting pre-construction teams with competitive bid submissions.
* Learning from experienced colleagues and contributing to continuous improvement across the planning function.
* Visiting project sites to support short-term planning and coordination activities.
Qualifications
To succeed in this role, you will bring the following:
* A qualification (or working towards one) in engineering, construction management, project management, or equivalent hands-on experience.
* A strong interest in construction planning and an understanding of how projects are delivered on-site.
* Some familiarity with Asta Powerproject or other planning software (training will be provided).
* Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with a proactive and positive attitude.
* Strong analytical and organisational abilities, with attention to detail and a curiosity to learn.
* A desire to develop a long-term career in planning within a growing and supportive business.
* Previous experience or exposure to civil engineering or infrastructure projects would be advantageous.
Day-to-Day
Your typical day as an Assistant Planner will involve:
* Collaborating with Planners and Senior Planners to develop and update project programmes.
* Visiting project sites to gather data and support short-term planning activities.
* Assisting in the preparation of reports and updates for internal and external stakeholders.
* Learning and applying planning software tools to create and manage project schedules.
* Supporting the review of project progress and identifying areas for improvement.
* Contributing to tender submissions and pre-construction planning efforts.
