HVAC CAD Designer
Role purpose
Produce accurate 2D/3D HVAC drawings and coordinated MEP models to support building-services design and installation, ensuring quality, buildability and compliance with current UK standards and client specifications.
Key responsibilities
* Create, develop and maintain coordinated MEP (HVAC) Revit models (ductwork, pipework, plant/equipment) and AutoCAD drawings: plans, sections, schematics, details and fabrication sheets.
* Produce drawing packages to agreed BIM/CAD standards, naming conventions and QA procedures; manage model/drawing revisions.
* Support clash detection/coordination with other disciplines and resolve issues ahead of construction.
* Prepare/export schedules, take-offs and deliverables from models; maintain drawing/document registers.
* Work with engineers to incorporate design calculations/specs into models and drawings; contribute to design reviews and technical reports.
* Ensure compliance with relevant UK building-services standards/guidance (e.g., CIBSE guidance) and project employer’s information requirements (EIR).
* Liaise with project managers, site teams, suppliers and subcontractors to accommodate sequencing, access, and prefabrication.
Required skills & experience
* Demonstrable experience as an HVAC CAD/Revit Technician/Designer in building services.
* Strong proficiency in Autodesk Revit (MEP) and AutoCAD for HVAC; ability to produce coordinated models and clear construction drawings.
* Understanding of HVAC systems (ventilation, comfort cooling, VRV/VRF, plantrooms) and typical detailing/coordination requirements.
* Familiarity with BIM workflows and common data environments; awareness of clash detection processes (e.g., Navisworks desirable).
* Working knowledge of UK building-services conventions/standards and QA processes used in consulting/contracting environments.
Desirable
* Experience on live UK projects for offices, healthcare, residential or industrial sectors, producing coordinated HVAC models and install packs.
* Knowledge of prefabrication/modularisation considerations in model/drawing production.
* Exposure to Revit add-ins, family creation, and discipline-specific content management.
Tools & platforms
* Autodesk Revit (MEP), AutoCAD (essential)
* (Nice to have) Navisworks / BIM 360 / CDEs for coordination & issue tracking.
Qualifications
* HNC/HND or equivalent in Building Services/Mechanical Engineering (or strong industry experience in a similar CAD/BIM role).
* Apprenticeship or training aligned to Building Services Design Technician standards is beneficial.
Personal attributes
* Detail-driven, with strong organisation, version control and time-management.
* Clear communicator who collaborates effectively across design, site and supply-chain teams
