Sustainability Manager
I am seeking a passionate and experienced Sustainability Manager to lead the development and delivery of sustainability initiatives across construction and refurbishment projects for a successful main contractor operating throughout London and the Southeast. Specialising in construction, fit out and refurbishment projects, the business has a strong focus on quality, sustainability and delivering value to clients. As part of our commitment to environmental and social responsibility, they are seeking a dedicated Sustainability Manager to lead and embed sustainability across all our operations.
As Sustainability Manager you will develop, implement and refine the sustainability strategy. This role will ensure our projects, supply chain and internal operations meet current and emerging best practices in environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance, enabling us to exceed client expectations, fulfil regulatory requirements and support long-term business strategy.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the development and continual improvement of sustainability strategy, targets and action plans (covering carbon emissions, waste, circular economy, resource efficiency, biodiversity, social value).
* Monitor and report on sustainability performance metrics across the business and on individual projects, ensuring data integrity, analysis and insights.
* Ensure compliance with relevant sustainability standards, regulations and certifications (e.g., BREEAM, ISO 14001, net-zero frameworks).
* Engage with senior managers, project teams, subcontractors and suppliers to embed sustainable practices across project lifecycle—from design through procurement, construction, commissioning and handover.
* Collaborate with procurement and supply chain teams to review and improve sustainable sourcing, supplier performance and circularity of materials.
* Provide guidance, training and awareness-raising on sustainability issues for staff at all levels.
* Manage sustainability risk assessments and integrate sustainability considerations into project planning and delivery.
* Lead the preparation of sustainability disclosures, client reports and submission of carbon reduction plans or other ESG documentation.
* Work closely with the Health & Safety and Quality Assurance teams to align sustainability with other business disciplines.
* Stay abreast of emerging sustainability trends, regulations and technologies in the construction and refurbishment sector, and proactively recommend innovations.
* Represent externally in industry forums, networks or client working groups on sustainability topics.
