Role Overview

Due to continued growth, they’re seeking a Mechanical Design Estimator to join their expanding team. This role would suit someone with a background in mechanical building services design who also enjoys the commercial and technical side of estimating.

You’ll work closely with pre-construction, design, and project delivery teams to develop technically sound, cost-effective solutions for tenders and live projects.

Key Responsibilities

Develop mechanical designs and technical submissions for HVAC, plumbing, and building services projects

*

Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates from drawings, specifications, and tender documents

*

Undertake material take-offs and liaise with suppliers/subcontractors for quotations

*

Assist in design calculations, equipment selection, and layout coordination

*

Support tender presentations and value engineering exercises

*

Conduct site visits to assess design requirements and project constraints

*

Collaborate with internal teams to ensure designs are commercially viable and technically robust

About You

*

Background in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Design (qualification or experience)

*

Experience in mechanical estimating and/or pre-construction within the M&E sector

*

Strong understanding of HVAC and plumbing systems design principles

*

Proficient with AutoCAD, Revit, and/or design calculation software (e.g. Hevacomp, IES, Cymap)

*

Excellent analytical, numerical, and communication skills

*

Ability to manage multiple tenders and design tasks to tight deadlines

*

For senior-level: proven track record in both design and estimating with mentoring ability
