Due to continued business growth, our client, a well-established and reputable Civil Engineering Contractor, is seeking an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to join their expanding HSE team on a permanent basis.
Working closely with construction project delivery teams, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting, advising, and implementing Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) processes, procedures, and continuous improvement initiatives across a variety of construction sites throughout Scotland.
Reporting to senior management, the Health & Safety Advisor will provide both technical and administrative support to ensure the highest standards of HSE performance and compliance are achieved across all projects.
Key Responsibilities
HSE Management & Planning
Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of key HSE management plans, including Project Management Plans (PMP), Construction Phase Plans (CPP), and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
Assist with the preparation and approval of Risk Assessments & Method Statements (RAMS) and work permits.
Safety Leadership & Engagement
Deliver and support site safety inductions, toolbox talks, and safety briefings.
Promote behavioural safety initiatives and foster a positive, proactive safety culture across project teams.
Technical Support & Compliance
Provide expert advice and guidance on HSE matters throughout all phases of project delivery, from tender to completion.
Ensure compliance with company HSE Management Systems, industry regulations, and best practices.
Support HSE monitoring, auditing, and reporting, identifying key trends and opportunities for improvement.
Incident Management
Assist with incident and near-miss investigations, ensuring accurate reporting, root cause analysis, and the implementation of corrective actions.
Risk Management & Review
Identify potential hazards and support teams in developing effective mitigation measures.
Conduct project reviews to highlight unusual risks and opportunities for improvement.
Client & Stakeholder Liaison
Represent the company at client HSE meetings and project progress reviews, ensuring clear communication and a collaborative approach to safety management.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
Proven experience within a civil engineering or construction environment.
Strong passion for health, safety, and environmental excellence.
NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate (minimum).
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and SharePoint applications.
Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel, including overnight stays as required.
Excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
Proactive, self-motivated, and able to work both independently and collaboratively.
Commitment to ongoing professional development, ideally working towards Chartered IOSH status.
Flexible and adaptable approach to managing multiple projects and priorities.
