Estimator – Civil Engineering / Environmental Projects

Salisbury (Hybrid – 2 days per week in office)

£45k – £55k + Package

Our client is a UK-based specialist delivering civil engineering and environmental solutions, with a strong heritage in habitat restoration, water infrastructure, and natural-capital projects.

They have expanded their in-house civil engineering capability, delivering structures, pipelines, earthworks and flood-defence solutions across the UK.

Role Purpose

As an Estimator, you will focus on producing accurate, competitive cost estimates and tender submissions for civil and environmental engineering projects. You will work closely with Project Managers, Engineers and Technical Leads to deliver high-quality proposals for works that integrate both construction and environmental disciplines.

Key Responsibilities

* Review tender documentation (drawings, specifications, site data) and develop detailed cost plans.

* Prepare quantity take-offs, rate build-ups, and pricing models.

* Liaise with subcontractors, suppliers and internal stakeholders to obtain quotations and validate costs.

* Support the bid/tender process, assisting with bid writing, risk registers, value engineering opportunities and submission documentation.

* Work with Project Managers and site teams to understand site logistics, scope, and deliverability.

* Maintain and update estimating databases and historic cost data.

* Ensure all estimates comply with company procedures, governance and quality standards.

* Visit sites and engage with technical teams as required to inform cost inputs.

Requirements – Essential

* Proven experience in estimating or cost-planning within civil engineering, infrastructure or environmental construction.

* Strong analytical and numerical skills with attention to detail.

* Good communication skills and ability to collaborate across disciplines.

* Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel; experience with estimating software is advantageous.

* Full UK Driving Licence and willingness to travel to client/supplier/site meetings.

Desirable

* Experience working on water, flood-defence, or natural-capital engineering projects.

* Familiarity with both “hard” civil engineering (earthworks, pipelines, structures) and “soft” environmental works.

* Awareness of sustainability, biodiversity, habitat creation practices.
