Waste Management Contract Lead
A client within the Public Sector based in the South West is currently recruiting for a Waste Management Contract Lead to join their Waste Management and Compliance team as soon as possible. The client is offering a full-time, temporary position on an ongoing basis with the ideal candidate having experience of working within a local authority within a waste management or environmental services environment.
The Role
Key purpose of the role is to lead the delivery and management of the Council’s waste treatment and disposal functions, ensuring statutory and environmental compliance, managing multi-million-pound external contracts, and supporting the council’s environmental aims and objectives.
Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
• Full line management of a specialist team responsible for contract management, compliance, and commissioning.
• Day-to-day management of waste treatment and disposal contracts with a combined annual value exceeding £25m, including MRF, landfill, composting, EfW, and HRC arrangements.
• Acting as Deputy Authorised Representative for the council in relation to waste management contracts, ensuring financial validation and approval of spend.
• Leading on environmental compliance, ensuring adherence to legislation and corporate policies.
• Reviewing new waste legislation and implementing necessary service changes.
• Managing relationships with contractors, the Environment Agency, and internal stakeholders such as Legal, Procurement, and Corporate H&S.
• Producing technical and policy reports to inform senior management and cabinet members.
• Deputising for the Head of Waste Management and representing the council at regional and national meetings.
The Candidate
To be considered for this role, you will require:
• A degree in a relevant profession (e.g., Environmental Management, Waste Management, or similar) or extensive experience in commissioning and contract management.
• Level 4 qualification in management or equivalent experience.
• Excellent ICT skills, including Microsoft applications and specialist systems.
The below skills would be beneficial for the role:
• Experience managing large-scale, high-value service contracts within waste or environmental services.
• Strong understanding of waste legislation, compliance, and permitting.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and analytical skills with the ability to manage complex relationships and competing priorities.
The client is looking to move quickly with this role and as such is offering £230 per day Umbrella LTD Inside IR35 (approx. £175 per day PAYE).
