Plant Fitter

Keyman Personnel

Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Plant Fitter to join a well-established civil engineering and construction contractor. The successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and servicing of a wide range of heavy plant and machinery used across major infrastructure, groundworks, and construction projects.

Key Responsibilities:

Carry out diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on a range of heavy plant equipment including excavators, dumpers, rollers, telehandlers, and other hydraulic machinery.

*

Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance to ensure equipment reliability and safety.

*

Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults using diagnostic tools and technical manuals.

*

Maintain accurate service and repair records in line with company and industry standards.

*

Respond to breakdowns on site, ensuring minimal downtime for operations.

*

Work closely with the operations team to schedule maintenance and report equipment status.

*

Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality (HSEQ) procedures.

*

Occasionally assist in equipment installation, commissioning, and decommissioning.

Essential Requirements:

*

Proven experience as a Plant Fitter, Heavy Plant Mechanic, or Mobile Service Engineer within a construction or civil engineering environment.

*

Strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.

*

Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and service manuals.

*

Full UK Driving Licence (preferably with trailer towing capability).

*

Excellent fault-finding, problem-solving, and organisational skills.

*

Capable of working independently and managing time effectively under site conditions.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience:

*

NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Plant Maintenance, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent trade qualification.

*

CSCS or CPCS card (Plant Maintenance category).

*

Previous experience working on large infrastructure or groundworks projects.

*

Familiarity with OEM diagnostic software and manufacturer service schedules.

*

Additional tickets such as IPAF, PASMA, or First Aid are advantageous.
