Person Specification – Quantity Surveyor – Consultancy

Role: Quantity Surveyor
Reports To: Business Unit Director
Business Unit: QS / Cost Management

1. Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

*

Professional qualification (e.g., MRICS or equivalent)

*

Minimum of seven years’ experience in quantity surveying and cost management

*

Proven track record of delivering cost management and quantity surveying services on multiple concurrent projects from inception to completion, with project values up to £30m or more

*

Experience in at least three of the following sectors: Residential, Commercial, Healthcare, Education, Heritage, Infrastructure, and/or Public Sector

*

Excellent negotiation, presentation, and communication skills (both written and oral), including report writing

*

Strong mathematical proficiency with expertise in cost planning, budgeting, and cost control

*

Effective time management, organisational, and planning skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines

*

Extensive knowledge and understanding of all standard forms of contract and a sound grasp of contract law relating to construction issues

*

Good understanding of construction techniques and materials

*

Proven ability to work collaboratively within teams, both internally and externally

*

Demonstrated success in building and maintaining client relationships

*

Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel (intermediate to advanced level)

*

Experience in working to and ensuring compliance with a recognised Quality Standard (e.g., ISO 9001)

2. Desirable Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

Recognised degree in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline

*

Experience and understanding of dispute resolution and adjudication procedures

*

Experience in measurement and preparation of Bills of Quantities, Schedules of Work, and other pricing documents

*

Commercial and business awareness

Established network of industry suppliers and partners

*

Knowledge of business development practices

*

Experience in training, mentoring, and developing junior staff
