Building Compliance Officer
A client within the Public Sector, based in Northamptonshire, is currently recruiting for a Building Compliance Officer to join their Assets & Environment Team as soon as possible. The client is offering a full-time, temporary position on an ongoing basis, with the ideal candidate having experience of working within a local authority compliance or property environment.
The Role
Key purpose of the role is to lead and manage the compliance and assurance function across the Council’s corporate and commercial estate portfolio, ensuring all buildings are safe, legally compliant, and strategically managed. This position provides expert technical advice, senior-level assurance, and robust reporting to executive management and external regulators.
Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
• Manage the compliance and assurance function, embedding proactive risk management and technical excellence.
• Oversee compliance with legislation and standards relating to gas, water, fire, electrics, mechanical, asbestos, and other statutory areas.
• Develop and manage compliance programmes, risk registers, and reports to senior management and elected members.
• Manage contractor performance, budgets, and audits to ensure statutory and contractual obligations are met.
• Provide professional advice on regulatory investigations and compliance notices.
• Lead a small team of compliance and assurance professionals (2–5 staff).
The Candidate
To be considered for this role, you will require:
• Chartered professional status (RICS, CIOB, CIBSE, IMechE, IET, or equivalent).
• IOSH Health and Safety in the Workplace (essential).
• Minimum of 5 years’ post-graduate experience in technical building compliance.
The below skills would be beneficial for the role:
• Strong leadership and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Excellent understanding of building regulations, fire safety, and compliance frameworks.
• Proven ability to manage contractors, budgets, and compliance programmes.
The client is looking to move quickly with this role and as such is offering £20 per hour Umbrella LTD Inside IR35 (approx. £16 per hour PAYE).
