Design Manager

We are seeking an experienced Design Manager to join a secure government project at Erlestoke House, Devizes. The successful candidate will manage the design coordination and technical assurance process on a live Ministry of Justice (MoJ) project, ensuring compliance with strict security, quality, and delivery standards.

This role will suit a technically strong Design Manager with proven experience working on MoJ, custodial, defence, or high-security government schemes, ideally holding advanced security clearance. Candidates must be based within one hour of Erlestoke House and available to start immediately.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and coordinate the design process from pre-construction through delivery, ensuring alignment with project objectives and MoJ standards.

Manage the interface between design consultants, subcontractors, and internal delivery teams.

Review and approve drawings, specifications, and technical submissions for compliance and buildability.

*

Ensure that design information is issued on time to support procurement and site progress.

*

Oversee design risk management, technical reviews, and coordination workshops.

*

Liaise with the MoJ, client representatives, and statutory authorities.

*

Support value engineering initiatives while maintaining design integrity and security compliance.

*

Maintain records, RFIs, and design change logs in line with project procedures.

Requirements

*

Proven experience as a Design Manager within main contracting or design & build environments.

*

Previous work on Ministry of Justice / custodial / secure environment projects essential.

*

Advanced security clearance (or ability to obtain).

*

Strong knowledge of construction methodologies, Building Regulations, and CDM Regulations.

*

Excellent coordination, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

*

Proficient with document control and design management systems (e.g. Viewpoint, BIM 360, Aconex).

*

Relevant qualifications in Architecture, Engineering, or Construction Management.

Additional Information

Must live within one hour’s commute of Erlestoke House, SN10 5TU.

*

Freelance position with potential to extend beyond initial 6 months.

*

Competitive day rate of £300, dependent on experience and clearance level
