The Role
As a Site Engineer, you’ll play a key role in the delivery of a major new highways project, working closely with the Section Engineer and Site Management team. You’ll be responsible for setting out, surveying, and managing day-to-day engineering activities on site — ensuring accuracy, safety, and efficiency at every stage.
Key Responsibilities
* Undertake accurate setting out and surveying duties for all site operations.
* Review technical drawings, quantities, and specifications for accuracy and compliance.
* Plan, coordinate, and schedule work to meet programme deadlines.
* Supervise subcontractors and site labour, ensuring quality and productivity.
* Liaise with consultants, designers, and the wider site team to resolve technical issues.
* Maintain detailed site records and ensure compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental procedures.
* Carry out material testing and ensure surveying instruments are properly calibrated.
* Identify opportunities for improvement and support continuous innovation on site.
* Support the Site and Project Managers in the overall delivery of the project.
About You
Essential:
* Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Project Management (or equivalent).
* Proven experience working as a Site Engineer within civil engineering.
* Strong setting out and surveying skills using modern equipment (GPS, Total Station, AutoCAD).
* Excellent communication, organisation, and problem-solving abilities.
* Valid CSCS card and Health & Safety training.
Desirable:
* Experience working on highways, infrastructure, or major civil engineering schemes.
* First Aid at Work certification.
* Commercial awareness and understanding of cost control.
* Ability to mentor junior staff and take on leadership responsibility
