Setting Out Engineer
About the Role
Our client, a well-established construction, and earthworks contractor, is seeking a skilled Setting Out Engineer to join their growing team.
This role is crucial in ensuring accuracy and efficiency across a variety of civil engineering, demolition, and groundworks projects. The ideal candidate will have a solid technical background, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in fast-paced site environments.
Key Responsibilities

Set out, level, and survey construction and demolition sites using GPS, total stations, and other instruments.
*
Interpret and work from construction drawings, plans, and specifications.
*
Liaise with site managers, project engineers, and subcontractors to ensure works are carried out to design and quality standards.
*
Conduct regular checks on setting out points and benchmarks to maintain accuracy.
*
Ensure all site work complies with company health, safety, and environmental standards.
*
Maintain accurate site records, as-built drawings, and quality assurance documentation.
*
Assist with material take-offs, quantity checks, and progress reports.
*
Support the preparation of risk assessments and method statements (RAMS).
*
Coordinate site surveys and report any design or technical issues promptly.
*
Provide technical guidance to site teams and ensure works are executed safely and efficiently.
Key Skills

Excellent technical and mathematical ability.

Strong communication and coordination skills.

High attention to detail and commitment to quality assurance.
*
Ability to interpret engineering drawings and site data accurately.
*
Competent in using Trimble, Leica, or Topcon surveying equipment.
*
Proficient in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
*
Strong understanding of site safety standards and CDM regulations.
Experience & Qualifications
*
Minimum 3–5 years’ experience as a Setting Out Engineer or Site Engineer within construction, civil engineering, or earthworks.
*
Experience working on demolition, earthworks, or groundworks projects preferred.
*
HNC/HND or Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
*
Valid CSCS card essential.
*
SSSTS or SMSTS and First Aid at Work certificates desirable.
*
Full UK driving licence required.
Salary
£50,000 – £60,000 DOE
(Plus vehicle allowance and company benefits)
