Quantity Surveyor
Hays are looking for a permanent quantity surveyor to join a regional contractor in the Southwest.

Location: Plymouth, UK
Working Hours: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Hays are recruiting on behalf of a dynamic and dedicated team that continuously undertakes various projects from conception to completion. They are seeking a skilled Quantity Surveyor who is either looking to advance their skills.
As a Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for managing all costs related to building projects, from the initial calculations to the final figures. Your role is crucial in ensuring that projects are completed within budget and meet the required quality standards. You will demonstrate a hands-on approach, excellent attention to detail, and the flexibility to meet tight deadlines.
Key responsibilities
- Compile estimate tender documents and coordinate their responses.
- Prepare work schedules and programmes, monitor expenses, identify potential savings, and produce progress reports.
- Understanding costing, cost planning, procurement, tendering, contract administration, and overall commercial management.
- Prepare take-offs (drawings) and produce bills of quantities.
- Support the procurement and continuous monitoring of plant, subcontractors, and materials.
- Undertake cost and value analysis and provide feedback to the Management Team.
- Prepare and manage contract documents, ensuring adherence to contractual timescales and costs.
- Perform risk, value management, and cost control exercises to keep projects within budget.
- Update and coordinate material schedules as required by Site Managers.
Requirements
- A degree in BSc Quantity Surveying is desirable but not essential.
- Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor in the construction industry is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods and materials.
- Excellent analytical, numeracy, and financial management skills.
- Proficiency in cost control techniques and relevant software applications.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- A driving licence is advantageous for site visits.
