A well-established mechanical services contractor with over 40 years' experience is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their expanding design team. This is a great opportunity to work in a supportive and flexible environment on a wide variety of commercial projects.
Role Overview
As Mechanical Design Engineer you will be responsible for the mechanical building services design and technical delivery of systems such as boilers, chillers, AHUs and air-conditioning plant within commercial refurbishments and fit-outs. You'll join a business trusted for technical rigour and will collaborate from concept through to construction, ensuring performance objectives are met, regulatory compliance is achieved and designs integrate seamlessly into the project environment.
Responsibilities
Produce detailed mechanical services designs including thermal modelling (using tools such as IES) and equipment specification.
Coordinate with internal teams (designers, project managers) and external consultants to ensure integration of mechanical systems.
Support design development from concept stage, through detailed design and construction support.
Ensure all mechanical services designs comply with relevant UK standards, building regulations, sustainability credentials (e.g., low-carbon performance, energy efficiency) and client performance targets.
Package / Benefits
Salary: £40,000 – £45,000 per annum (depending on experience)
Hybrid working arrangement – office-based in Surrey with flexibility

Requirements
Proven experience in mechanical design within the building services sector, especially involving HVAC systems, Air Conditioning, AHUs, chillers, boilers, etc.
Proficiency in thermal modelling tools (e.g., IES) along with solid understanding of mechanical services design.
Experience working on commercial projects is beneficial.
Strong design coordination skills, ability to liaise with multi-discipline teams, and knowledge of UK standards and performance criteria.
