Here’s one for the planners who like structure, clarity, and a challenge with serious purpose. A major UK contractor is recruiting a Senior Planner to be based in Manchester, focused on a significant prison scheme scheduled to begin in 2026.

You’ll be joining a tier one contractor with a strong public sector track record, including justice, healthcare, and education projects. They’re widely respected for delivering complex schemes through collaboration, innovation and an unwavering focus on quality.

This Senior Planner role will be central to the success of a large-scale custodial scheme. You’ll get involved early in pre-construction and drive the programme strategy right through to delivery. Expect autonomy, support from a seasoned pre-con and delivery team, and the chance to work on one of the more meaningful sectors in the built environment.

Your key responsibilities will include:

Developing and maintaining detailed programmes during tender and delivery phases

Working closely with the bid and operations teams to ensure clear, deliverable sequencing

Contributing to project methodology, logistics planning and risk identification

Ensuring reporting and tracking are aligned to progress and key milestones

Experience working on public sector frameworks or prison builds would be a bonus, but it's not a prerequisite. NEC contract knowledge is also useful. What’s essential is a proactive mindset, solid construction programme knowledge, and the ability to communicate clearly with multiple stakeholders.
