Technical Director – Energy
Pinnacle Recruitment is currently looking for a Highly experienced Technical Director to work for a major contractor’s growing its Energy business to lead the technical strategy, design assurance, and innovation across our Extra High Voltage (EHV) infrastructure portfolio.
You’ll provide leadership on a range major infrastructure projects, ensuring engineering excellence, safety, and quality while driving digital innovation and sustainability. This is a pivotal role for an experienced Chartered Engineer ready to shape the future of the UK’s energy network.
The Role
As Technical Director – Energy (EHV), you will play a pivotal leadership role within our Energy business unit. You will be responsible for the technical delivery, assurance, and development of our EHV design and engineering capabilities across transmission, distribution, and renewable connection projects.
Working closely with our operations, design, and commercial teams, you will ensure the highest standards of safety, quality, and technical integrity are achieved on every project.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide strategic technical leadership across all EHV projects (typically 132kV and above).
* Oversee design governance, engineering assurance, and compliance with client and industry standards.
* Drive innovation and digital engineering initiatives to improve efficiency and sustainability.
* Support project teams with complex engineering challenges and risk management.
* Lead the technical development of our in-house design and engineering functions.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, regulators, and supply chain partners.
* Represent VolkerStevin at industry forums, working groups, and technical steering committees.
* Mentor and develop engineering staff, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
About You
* Chartered Engineer (CEng) with a relevant degree in Electrical, Power, or Civil Engineering.
* Significant experience in the EHV / Transmission & Distribution sector (132kV to 400kV).
* Strong background in design management, technical governance, and engineering assurance.
* Proven leadership experience in multi-disciplinary project environments.
* Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
* Commercial awareness with an understanding of project delivery frameworks (e.g. NEC).
* Commitment to safety, sustainability, and quality in engineering delivery.
