Our client, a materials and aggregates provider is looking for a Materials Technician / Laboratory Technician in the Wolverhampton area, to work on a contract basis.
The role will entail testing, analysing and controlling aggregates and asphalt materials, in a laboratory setting, including constituent testing for material abrasion, water absorption, PSV. You will be responsible for sampling, testing, and analysing construction materials such as aggregates, asphalt, and hydraulically bound mixtures, in line with British Standards.
You will support the production and technical teams by providing accurate data, maintaining compliance with quality standards of products, assisting with trial mixes and equipment calibration, also contributing to investigations of product quality issues and customer queries, promoting a strong safety culture, demonstrating good attention to detail, technical knowledge of materials testing, and the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with colleagues.
Daily duties will include but are not limited to:
Conduct product sampling and testing of products, according to procedures and British Standards (BS EN 12350, BS EN 12390, BS EN 12697, BS EN 13286, BS EN 1097).
Ensure timely testing and adherence to test frequency targets as per departmental KPIs.
Perform equipment calibration and maintenance in line with standards.
Assist with concrete trial mixes and routine aggregate testing.
Document and communicate testing procedures and results clearly to relevant teams.
Support remedial actions to maintain product quality and resolve issues.
Provide technical advice on test results to supervisors, managers, and production staff.
Prepare and present test reports to investigate customer complaints and queries.
Promote and uphold a strong safety culture within the laboratory and site environment.
Candidates will ideally:
Be proficient with laboratory testing and sampling techniques for aggregates and asphalt.
Have familiarity with British Standards, including
BS EN 12697 (Bituminous mixtures)
BS EN 13286 (Unbound and hydraulically bound mixtures)
BS EN 1097 (Mechanical and physical properties of aggregates)
Have knowledge of raw material requirements & aggregates/materials production processes.
Have experience with equipment calibration and maintenance routines.
Be able to interpret and advise on technical test results confidently.
Strong attention to detail and quality assurance focus.
Have Health and Safety awareness relevant to laboratory and site environments
Good IT literacy for data recording and reporting.
