Project Planner
Overview
Boyd Recruitment are currently working with a leading engineering contractor to source an experienced Project Planner for major high voltage (HV) substation and transmission projects across the UK.
This is a permanent opportunity offering long-term career prospects, with a strong pipeline of secured work for the next five years and beyond. You’ll be joining a vibrant, multi-disciplinary team delivering technically complex projects safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.
Role Purpose
As a Project Planner, you will play a key role in the planning and coordination of large-scale electrical infrastructure projects, ensuring that works are delivered on time, within budget, and to required standards.
You will collaborate closely with Project Managers, Engineers, and Commercial Teams to develop and maintain project schedules, monitor progress, and identify risks and opportunities. A strong understanding of the sequencing and logistics involved in HV substation builds (110kV–400kV) is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
Planning & Scheduling
Review contract documentation to identify scheduling and reporting requirements.
Develop detailed construction schedules based on project targets and work breakdown structures.
Support schedule negotiations with clients and main contractors.
Labour and metrics load schedules in coordination with the Commercial Team.
Develop progress trackers, reporting templates, and integrated construction schedules.
Monitoring & Reporting
Measure and track weekly progress and efficiency in collaboration with site and commercial teams.
Produce progress reports, dashboards, and “look ahead” schedules.
Identify and escalate potential risks or constraints.
Provide “estimate at completion” forecasts for labour hours and productivity.
Project Support
Act as the main point of contact for planning issues within your project team.
Support bid submissions through development of schedules and histograms.
Facilitate planning meetings and ensure alignment across all stakeholders.
Support risk identification and mitigation strategies throughout the project lifecycle.
Candidate Profile
Proven experience as a Project Planner in the power transmission, utilities, or construction sectors.
Strong understanding of HV substation sequencing and logistics (110kV–400kV preferred).
Proficient in Primavera P6 or similar planning software.
Excellent communication and analytical skills with a proactive, detail-oriented approach.
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a dynamic environment.
