We are seeking a dedicated Quantity Surveyor to join our expanding commercial team.

Role Purpose

The Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for the commercial management of allocated civil engineering projects, ensuring cost control, contract compliance, accurate forecasting, and effective stakeholder communication. The role requires a strong understanding of NEC and/or JCT contracts, civil engineering methods, and the commercial processes essential to supporting successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Commercial & Cost Management

* Prepare, review, and manage project cost plans, budgets, and cashflow forecasts.

* Monitor project costs, identify variances, and implement corrective actions.

* Value completed works and manage interim applications for payment.

* Prepare final accounts and support contract close-out.

Contract Administration

* Administer NEC/JCT contracts in accordance with company and client procedures.

* Prepare and submit early warnings, compensation events, and contractual notices.

* Assess subcontractor quotations, variations, and claims.

Subcontract Management

* Prepare procurement schedules for subcontractors and materials.

* Issue tender packages, undertake tender analysis, and make recommendations.

* Manage subcontractor accounts from order to final account.

Measurement & Valuation

* Conduct detailed measurement of civil engineering works (using drawings, BIM models, or site surveys).

* Prepare accurate bills of quantities, schedules, and take-offs.

* Support engineers and site teams with cost breakdowns and productivity analysis.

Risk & Opportunity Management

* Identify financial risks and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.

* Support value engineering initiatives.

Reporting

* Produce monthly CVRs (Cost Value Reconciliations) and project performance reports.

* Present commercial updates to senior management.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Management

* Work closely with project managers, engineers, planners, and site teams.

* Build positive relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.

* Ensure all commercial activities align with company values and high professional standards.

Required Skills & Experience

Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar Quantity Surveyor role within civil engineering or infrastructure.

Strong working knowledge of NEC (preferred) and/or JCT contracts.Experience in groundworks, structures, enabling works, utilities, or general civil engineering.

Solid understanding of measurement principles and the civil engineering construction process.

Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and QS software (e.g., Candy, Causeway, COINS).

Strong numeracy, analytical thinking, and attention to detail.Excellent communication and negotiation skills.

Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Qualifications

* Degree or equivalent in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management.

* Professional membership (RICS, ICES, etc.) is desirable but not essential.

* CSCS card (or willingness to obtain).
