Engineering Manager
Our client, a leading company in the construction sector, is currently seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to join their team in Exeter. The successful candidate will lead and oversee the engineering function across water and wastewater infrastructure projects. This is a permanent, full-time position requiring robust leadership and technical skills, particularly in the water sector.
Key Responsibilities:
Engineering Leadership & Governance
Provide overall leadership and direction to engineering teams across multiple projects.
Set technical standards, governance processes, and assurance frameworks to ensure safety and compliance.
Act as the senior approver for designs, specifications, and technical deliverables.
Drive innovation, value engineering, and digital engineering adoption (BIM).Project Oversight & Delivery
Oversee engineering input across all project stages including feasibility, design, procurement, construction, and commissioning.
Manage multidisciplinary teams including civil, mechanical, electrical, ICA, process, and commissioning engineers.
Ensure projects meet client specifications, statutory regulations, and company procedures.
Support project managers in programme planning and risk management.Contracts & Commercial Awareness
Ensure engineering activities comply with obligations under standard contract forms such as NEC4, NEC3, and IChemE.
Support commercial teams during contract reviews, procurement, and subcontractor engagement.
Drive cost efficiency while maintaining quality and compliance.Stakeholder & Client Engagement
Act as the senior engineering representative in client and regulator meetings.
Build and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders.
Provide strategic input to client frameworks and AMP investment programmes.Team Management & Development
Lead, mentor, and develop senior engineers, project engineers, and graduates.
Establish clear objectives and career development pathways for engineering staff.
Foster a collaborative culture across different engineering disciplines.Health, Safety, Environment & Quality
Ensure designs embed safety by design and whole-life asset considerations.
Promote sustainability, carbon reduction, and circular economy principles.
Drive continual improvement in engineering quality assurance and commissioning procedures.
Job Requirements:
Degree-qualified in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or Process Engineering (or equivalent).
Chartered Engineer (CEng) with ICE, IMechE, IET, or CIWEM.
Extensive experience in water/wastewater infrastructure delivery, including leadership roles.
Proficiency in managing multidisciplinary projects and technical assurance.
Strong knowledge of NEC4, NEC3, IChemE contracts, and commercial processes.
Excellent leadership, communication, and client-facing skills.
Preferred knowledge of digital engineering (BIM Level 2+), TOTEX, and major framework or alliancing delivery models.
