An excellent opportunity has arisen for a talented Conservation Architect to join a well-established architectural practice based in the historic heart of Winchester. This role is ideal for someone with a genuine passion for heritage and the conservation of significant historic buildings and sites. Whether you are already conservation-accredited or are working towards accreditation, this position offers the chance to further develop your expertise within a respected and supportive environment.
The Role
Working across a varied portfolio, you will contribute to the conservation, repair and adaptation of heritage assets including listed buildings, scheduled monuments, country houses and ecclesiastical architecture.
Key responsibilities include:
Collaborating closely with senior team members on major heritage schemes
Taking ownership of your own projects from early concept through to completion
Coordinating with clients, consultants and stakeholders to deliver high-quality outcomes
Supporting the wider team across both conservation and non-conservation commissions where needed
About You
The successful candidate will bring demonstrated experience working with historic buildings and a clear enthusiasm for heritage-led design.
You should ideally offer:
Qualifications: RIBA Part III preferred; strong Part II candidates with conservation experience are also encouraged
Skills: Strong design, technical and creative abilities, including knowledge of historic building repair
Understanding: Good familiarity with all RIBA stages
Software: Proficiency in AutoCAD; SketchUp and Photoshop beneficial
Attributes: Self-motivated, organised, collaborative, and confident handling responsibility and deadlines
Practical requirements: Full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle
Accreditation is supported, with structured CPD and opportunities to build a robust conservation portfolio through case-study projects.
