Design Engineer – Piling

A major contractor geotechnical division is seeking a Design Engineer to join our growing technical team in Motherwell. This is an exciting opportunity to work on some of the UK’s most significant civil engineering and infrastructure projects, delivering innovative and value-driven ground engineering solutions.

As a Design Engineer, you’ll play a key role in producing safe, efficient and buildable designs across piling, retaining structures, ground improvement, and specialist geotechnical solutions. You'll collaborate closely with our delivery teams, clients, and industry partners to turn complex challenges into practical engineering outcomes.

What You’ll Be Doing

Preparing geotechnical and structural designs for a wide range of ground engineering projects.

*

Producing design calculations, drawings, technical reports and method statements.

*

Working collaboratively with project managers, site teams and other design disciplines to ensure solutions are buildable and cost-effective.

*

Contributing to early contractor involvement (ECI) and tender design activities.

*

Liaising with clients, consultants and stakeholders to ensure best-practice engineering and compliance with standards.

*

Supporting continuous improvement, innovation and digital engineering initiatives within the design team.

*

Assisting with design risk assessments and ensuring designs meet all relevant health, safety and environmental requirements.

What We’re Looking For

*

Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering or a related discipline.

*

Experience in ground engineering, foundations, or geotechnical design (piling experience advantageous).

*

Working knowledge of relevant design software (e.g., Wallap, Pdisp, LPILE, Slope/W, Plaxis, or similar).

*

Understanding of design codes and standards (Eurocodes, CDM Regulations, etc.).

*

Strong analytical skills with the ability to develop practical, buildable solutions.

*

Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

*

Progression toward professional accreditation (IEng/CEng) is desirable.
