Role – Setting Out Engineer
Location – Manchester, UK
Mint Selection are working with a leading contractor who are seeking an experienced Setting Out Engineer with previous exposure to energy or power-related projects to join them on a 12-month contract, starting January 2026.
Scope of Work
*
Carry out all setting out and surveying duties on civil works associated with energy-sector projects, including foundations, earthworks, drainage, access roads, ducting, and structural installations.

Interpret technical drawings, design information, and specifications to ensure accurate delivery of construction works.
*
Establish control points, grid lines, and levels, providing precise information for construction teams.
*
Use total stations, GPS, and laser levels to complete setting out, level checks, verification surveys, and as-built records.
*
Coordinate with Site Managers, Civil Engineers, electrical teams, and subcontractors to ensure smooth progress and clear communication.
*
Ensure all setting out activities are delivered in accordance with Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality (HSEQ) procedures.
*
Maintain detailed site documentation, including daily records, as-built drawings, ITPs, survey logs, and permits.
*
Conduct quality checks to ensure works meet design tolerances and project specifications.
*
Assist in resolving technical issues on site, escalating design queries where required.
*
Support project completion activities, including final surveys and preparation of handover documentation.
Experience to be Considered
*
Proven experience as a Setting Out Engineer on civil engineering projects within the energy or power sector (e.g., substations, renewables, grid connections, BESS, solar, wind, or utility infrastructure).
*
Strong understanding of setting out for earthworks, concrete works, drainage, utilities, and structural elements.
*
Proficient with GPS, total stations, and laser-level equipment.
*
Confident interpreting drawings, technical data, and construction specifications.
*
Strong accuracy, organisation, and attention to detail.
*
Effective communication skills, with experience working alongside multidisciplinary site teams.
These will be 12-month renewable contracts and are outside IR35.
