Senior Data Centre Construction Manager – 12-Month Contract

About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Construction Manager with a strong mechanical background to lead the end-to-end mechanical delivery on a large-scale data centre project in Germany. This senior position requires strategic oversight of site operations, subcontractor management, and ensuring compliance with stringent technical and safety standards in a mission-critical environment. You will act as the primary authority for mechanical works, driving excellence in execution and coordination across all trades.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Project Leadership

* Take full ownership of mechanical construction activities, including:

* HVAC systems

* Chilled water systems

* CRAC/CRAH units

* Pipework and plant installation

* Ensure delivery aligns with project specifications, contractual obligations, and industry best practices.

* Collaborate closely with electrical and civil teams to maintain integrated M&E delivery.

Senior Team Management

* Lead and mentor site supervisors, foremen, and subcontractors.

* Drive resource planning, productivity optimization, and technical problem-solving.

* Act as the escalation point for complex technical and operational issues.

Governance, Health & Safety

* Champion a culture of safety and compliance across all site activities.

* Conduct high-level audits, inspections, and enforce adherence to HSE regulations.

* Approve and oversee method statements, risk assessments, and permit systems.

Planning & Reporting

* Develop and manage detailed short-term and long-term programs aligned with the master schedule.

* Monitor progress against KPIs and report directly to senior project leadership.

* Maintain robust documentation and ensure accurate reporting for client and internal stakeholders.

Stakeholder Engagement

* Represent the project at senior-level coordination meetings.

* Build and maintain strong relationships with client representatives, consultants, and contractors.

* Provide clear, concise updates on mechanical works and overall project status.

Requirements

Experience

* Minimum 5+ years in senior roles on data centre or mission-critical projects.

* Proven track record with M&E contractors in leadership positions.

* Demonstrated ability to manage large teams and complex subcontractor packages.

Technical Expertise

* Deep knowledge of mechanical systems for data centres:

* Cooling systems, chilled water, HVAC, CRAC/CRAH units.

* Familiarity with German building regulations and EU standards (preferred).

* Advanced ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.

Qualifications

* Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.

* Senior-level safety certifications (e.g., NEBOSH, VCA) highly advantageous.

Other

* Fluent in English; German language skills strongly preferred.

* Willingness to work on-site in Germany for full contract duration (10 on 4 off rotation)
