You will be working for a statutory harbour authority that has responsibility for ongoing management and safety of ports across the south.
Your new role
Hays are looking for a highly motivated, active and proficient person. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all health & safety and environmental protocols within the port across maintenance, operational and construction activities, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and industry standards and assisting in working towards decarbonisation/net-zero.
The successful candidate will be expected to work well in a multi-functional team and will be required to carry out other duties associated with a busy working port.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop, implement, and maintain safety, health and environmental policies and procedures.
• Conduct regular risk assessments and audits and chair H&S committee meetings.
• Make monthly written reports for the Board of Directors.
• Regularly review and ensure compliance with safety management systems.
• Provide training and awareness programs to employees regarding health, safety and environmental protocols.
• Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses; and implement corrective actions.
• Liaise with regulatory and industry bodies and ensure all statutory provisions are met.
• Liaise with employees, subcontractors and suppliers on Health & Safety matters.
• Review the production of third-party risk assessments/method statements, approve Permits to Work and advise on health and safety matters.
• Promote a strong culture of safety and wellbeing throughout the port, monitor and report.
• Be a proactive member of the management team.
• Assist the team in working towards net-zero/decarbonisation.
• Act as fire warden, carry out fire risk assessments, advise on fire safety etc.
• Oversee training and qualification of all staff ensuring that records are kept updated.
• Assisting with the day-to-day management of port operations.
What you’ll need to succeed
The successful candidate will have:• NEBOSH General Certificate in Health & Safety or equivalent qualification
• Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practices
• Working knowledge of CDM Regulations
• Excellent communication, leadership and IT skills
• Full Driving Licence
