Overview
Join our client’s growing team working on Sizewell C (SZC), one of the UK’s most significant low-carbon infrastructure programmes. This major nuclear new-build project will play a crucial role in supporting Britain’s energy security and Net Zero targets, delivering clean and reliable electricity for decades to come.
We are seeking an experienced Rail Senior Project Manager to oversee key elements of the rail infrastructure within SZC’s Associated Developments programme. This is an opportunity to work at scale on a complex, nationally important project while helping shape sustainable transport solutions that support construction and reduce local community impact.
Purpose of the Role
The Rail Project Manager will lead the safe and efficient delivery of assigned rail packages—from planning and design through to procurement, construction, and handover. You will ensure scope, budget, schedule, and quality requirements are met, while maintaining strong coordination with other project areas and external stakeholders.
This role forms part of the Civils Programme.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and manage project plans, ensuring alignment with wider programme objectives
* Oversee multidisciplinary design coordination and interface management
* Lead day-to-day delivery activities, ensuring safety, schedule, budget, and quality targets are achieved
* Maintain effective communication with internal teams, contractors, and key external bodies such as Network Rail and local authorities
* Monitor progress, manage risks, and implement change control where required
* Review and manage contractor schedules and deliverables
* Apply project controls principles, including Earned Value Management
* Support continual improvement, lessons learned, and best-practice sharing across the programme
* Ensure contractual and assurance requirements are met
Experience & Skills
* Proven experience delivering multi-disciplinary rail or major infrastructure projects
* Strong background in project management, contract management, scheduling, and cost control
* Familiarity with railway standards, processes, and assurance requirements
* Ability to lead complex stakeholder engagement across regulators, local authorities, engineering teams and supply chain partners
* Experience working with major contractors and consultants in a regulated environment
* Strong communication, leadership, and analytical skills
* Competent in digital project tools (e.g., MS Teams, document management systems, BIM/GIS platforms)
* Relevant engineering or construction degree; chartered status desirable
* PTS and CSCS certifications (or ability to obtain)
* Understanding of CDM regulations and large-scale construction lifecycles
