A Design Manager in the new build and refurbishment sides of the business oversees the design of roofing & cladding systems for commercial and industrial building projects. Responsible for designing projects ranging from £500,000 – £5,000,000 under the Head of Design. As Design Manager, you must have time management skills in order to produce the design to an agreed programme. You must have excellent communication skills for co-ordination with suppliers, clients and the project team. A firm knowledge of the roofing, cladding and façade industry is required for this role.
Responsibilities:
* Work from tender quote along with client specifications and surveys, and manufacturers design information to create the design.
* Create a Design & Procurement program with the operations team for submittal to the client when a new project starts.
* Monitor progress and report against the program to the operations team.
* Obtain quotes from sub-contract designers and monitor design costs against design budget.
* Produce detailed GA, installation, manufacturing drawings and as-built documentation for client’s approval.
* Scheduling of materials to an agreed programme for buying.
* Production of Material Request list.
* Attend and contribute to design meetings with clients and other members of the broader design team of a project.
* Carry out/assist with site surveys where required.
* Communicate with site managers and material suppliers to find the correct design solution.
* Help to identify and implement company procedures and processes.
* Highlight variations to the project team as soon as they become apparent.
Skills required:
* Possess detailed knowledge of cladding and roofing systems, update where necessary by instigating CPDs or ensuring that the latest manufacturer’s information is being worked to.
* Be knowledgeable of the relevant Building Regulations that may affect the works that are carried out.
* Be experienced in the use of 2D AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
* You will need to be organised and able to run multiple projects in parallel.
* Be knowledgeable of construction techniques and structurally aware. Knowing when to engage the use of a Structural Engineer.
* Hold strong commercial awareness and material costs.
* Be a strong communicator, written, verbal and including the use of sketches where necessary
