About the Company

A long-established, forward-thinking construction consultancy is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor (MRICS) to strengthen its cost management team. This is a senior client-facing role where you will take ownership of complex commissions, influence strategic commercial decisions, and contribute to the continuous development of a high-performing practice.

About the Role

As Senior QS, you’ll lead the delivery of cost and commercial management services across a portfolio of new-build, refurbishment, and regeneration projects. These may include commercial offices, residential developments, high-profile public realm schemes, heritage restorations, and mixed-use masterplans.

You’ll provide trusted cost leadership from feasibility through completion, ensuring financial clarity, programme alignment, and commercially sound decisions at every stage. The role combines technical expertise with client stewardship and team leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Pre-Contract

Develop cost plans, viability assessments, and feasibility studies with detailed benchmarking and elemental analysis

Prepare capital cost estimates, lifecycle cost studies, and value engineering proposals

Lead procurement strategy development—traditional, design & build, two-stage, and framework routes

Produce tender documentation including bills of quantities, employer’s requirements, pricing schedules, and scope documents

Manage tender processes, contractor interviews, technical clarifications, and tender evaluation reports

Post-Contract

Administer contracts (JCT & NEC) including instructions, change control, and payment assessments

Review and validate contractor applications, claims, and variations

Produce financial reports, cost-to-complete forecasts, risk allowances, and cashflows

Monitor progress, commercial risk exposure, and contractual obligations throughout delivery

Support dispute avoidance measures and undertake final account negotiations

Client & Team Leadership

Act as primary client contact, offering strategic commercial advice and clear communication

Build long-term relationships with developers, institutions, and public bodies

Guide assistant and intermediate QS colleagues through technical tasks, APC development, and project execution

Support business growth by contributing to bids, presentations, and sector insights

About the Requirements

Chartered MRICS with robust consultancy-side experience leading projects independently

Strong working knowledge of JCT and NEC forms of contract

Skilled in cost planning, procurement, reporting, benchmarking, and risk analysis

Comfortable operating in a client-facing role with the ability to provide strategic direction

Capable of managing multiple projects and deadlines calmly and confidently

Strong numerical, analytical, and communication skills

Proficient in cost management software, digital measurement tools, and Microsoft 365
