The Role:

As a Mechanical (HVAC) Design Engineer, you’ll play a key role within the Building Services design team. Reporting to the M&E Design Manager, you’ll lead mechanical engineering activities, from

concept design and estimating to detailed design and project support. This is a hands-on role suited to someone with strong experience in low-temperature hot water heating systems, capable of designing new networks and integrating plant into existing systems. You’ll work closely with sales, projects, and site teams—supporting installations, solving challenges, and ensuring successful delivery from RIBA Stage 2 through to Stage 6.

Key Responsibilities

* Develop feasibility studies, concept designs, and detailed mechanical designs.

* Survey sites and assess existing building services systems.

* Prepare specifications, and tender documentation.

* Calculate HVAC loads, flow rates, pipe sizing, and energy consumption.

* Collaborate with controls engineers on control philosophies and descriptions of operation.

* Manage mechanical design within agreed budgets.

* Produce equipment schedules, selections, and supplier quotations.

* Attend client and internal meetings, providing technical input.

* Support site operations and resolve mechanical issues during installation.

* Contribute to O&M documentation and post-project evaluations.

Qualifications/Experience:

* Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, or related discipline.

* Working towards Chartered Engineer status.

* Strong technical knowledge of building services and mechanical systems.

* Proficient in industry-standard software (CAD, Hevacomp, IES).

* Full UK driving licence.
