Overview

An established UK business is seeking a commercially focused Managing Director or General Manager to lead and grow the organisation. This is a senior leadership role with full responsibility for financial performance, operational oversight, and driving sales and business development activity.

The successful candidate will bring strong commercial acumen, hands-on leadership, and experience across sales and purchasing. Experience within construction or a related sector is desirable but not essential.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy

Provide overall leadership and strategic direction for the business

*

Drive sustainable growth while maintaining operational efficiency

*

Act as a senior representative of the business with clients and key stakeholders

Financial Management

*

Full responsibility for P&L and balance sheet management

*

Monitor financial performance against budgets and forecasts

*

Ensure strong cash flow, margin control, and financial reporting

Sales, Business Development & Client Engagement

*

Take an active role in sales and business development

*

Support and mentor the designated sales team to achieve targets

*

Build and maintain strong client relationships

*

Attend client meetings and site visits as required

Commercial & Purchasing

*

Lead commercial decision-making across the business

*

Oversee purchasing strategies to protect and improve margins

*

Negotiate with suppliers and key partners

Operational Oversight

*

Oversee day-to-day operations to ensure efficient and profitable delivery

*

Work closely with operational teams to drive performance and accountability

Candidate Profile

Essential

*

Proven senior leadership experience with strong commercial responsibility

*

Demonstrable experience managing P&L and balance sheets

*

Strong background in sales, business development, and purchasing

*

Confident, credible leader with excellent communication skills

Desirable

*

Experience within construction or a related sector

*

Experience operating within a £10m+ turnover business

Additional Information

Office-based role in Redditch, 5 days per week

*

Client meetings and site visits may be required
