Site manager
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Site Manager to oversee construction and fire safety improvements across multiple live prison areas at HMP Waylands. The role will require a strong background in construction management, with a focus on ensuring health and safety compliance, managing day-to-day production, and coordinating teams on-site. The ideal candidate will have prior experience working in a live prison environment and a deep understanding of the unique challenges it presents.
Key Responsibilities

Oversee daily site operations on the construction and fire safety improvement works in multiple live prison areas
*
Ensure full health and safety compliance on-site, including risk assessments, tool-box talks, and adherence to HSE standards
*
Manage subcontractors, labor, and resources to meet project timelines and production targets
*
Monitor and report progress to senior management, ensuring work is completed to the highest standards
*
Ensure that all fire safety improvements are carried out according to regulations and client specifications
*
Coordinate closely with prison authorities to manage access, security, and logistical challenges
*
Conduct regular site inspections to ensure compliance with site regulations and safety protocols
*
Maintain a clear line of communication with the client and stakeholders, including addressing any issues or concerns promptly
*
Ensure a safe working environment by implementing and enforcing strict HSE protocols and emergency procedures
*
Manage quality assurance, ensuring that work is completed in line with specifications and to industry standards
Essential Requirements
*
CSCS Card (Site Manager Level)
*
SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) certification
*
First Aid certification
*
Proven experience working in a live prison environment
*
Strong experience in construction management and fire safety improvements
*
Excellent knowledge of health and safety regulations, with the ability to enforce them effectively
*
Experience managing subcontractors and coordinating on-site activities
*
Strong leadership, organisational, and communication skills
Desirable Experience
*
Previous experience working on prison refurbishments or public sector projects
*
Knowledge of specific prison construction standards and protocols
