Building Regulations Principal Designer (BR PD)

Location: London (Hybrid – 1 day per week in the office)
Salary: £55,000 – £65,000 + benefits

We are working with a well-established and growing London-based architectural practice.in the search for a Building Regulations Principal Designer (BR PD).

This is a senior appointment and a key role within the business, requiring strong technical expertise, leadership capability, and a thorough understanding of compliance under the Building Safety Act (BSA). The role has a strong strategic element and will contribute to the development of a dedicated Building Safety / BR PD service offering.

The Role

You will act as the designated Building Regulations Principal Designer under the Building Regulations 2010 (as amended), ensuring compliance across a portfolio of significant projects, including Higher-Risk Buildings (HRBs).

The position combines practice leadership, project delivery, and regulatory assurance, offering real scope to influence building safety processes at a practice-wide level.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and deliver BR PD services across multiple projects

Review enquiries, prepare fee proposals, and support bid negotiations

*

Manage client relationships and act as a key technical advisor

*

Monitor resources, costs, and fee performance

*

Mentor and develop BR PDs and wider project teams

*

Contribute to ISO 9001 systems and internal BSA procedures

*

Ensure compliance with PAS 8671:2022 and BS EN ISO 19650

Candidate Profile

*

Professionally qualified Architect (ARB) or equivalent background in engineering, building surveying, or a related discipline

*

Ideally listed on the RIBA Principal Designer Register (HRB) (or working towards)

*

Post-qualification experience, including work on complex or Higher-Risk Buildings

*

Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills

*

Commercially aware with experience managing fees and resources

Agency notes
This is a full-time permanent role, working 40 hours per week Monday to Friday with hybrid working 1 day a week and is available to start as soon as possible upon appointment. The client has not notified us of any specific Health & Safety Risks. The notice period is 1 week during probation, rising to 1 month thereafter and is paid on a monthly, salaried basis. Salary offered will be dependent on experience. You will be entitled to 25 days holiday plus bank holidays + pension (6:2). You will be based at the London office with occasional travel to site or offices.
