I am currently working in partnership with a leading UK main contractor and supporting them with their search for a commercially astute and driven Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their team delivering a major capital works project in Newport, South Wales.

This is a pivotal commercial leadership role on a high-value, bespoke infrastructure scheme, offering long-term security and excellent career prospects. The successful candidate will be joining a well-established contractor with a strong reputation for delivering complex, technically challenging projects across the UK.

The Role
As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will take full end-to-end commercial responsibility for the project, acting as the commercial lead and primary interface with the client and supply chain. The role will be site-based three days per week, with flexibility for the remaining time.

Key responsibilities include:

Full commercial management of a major capital works project from pre-construction through to final account
Administration and management of NEC contracts, including change control, compensation events, and cost forecasting
Leading cost reporting, CVRs, cashflow management, and risk/opportunity management
Managing and developing a Cost Clerk, with potential oversight of an Assistant Quantity Surveyor
Working closely with the Project Manager and wider delivery team to ensure commercial and programme objectives are met
Client engagement and contribution to commercial strategy on a bespoke, high-value scheme
Senior Quantity Surveyors considering this opportunity must be able to demonstrate:

Proven experience operating at Senior QS level on major infrastructure, civil engineering or utilities projects
Strong, hands-on experience working under NEC forms of contract
Background with a main contractor delivering complex, high-value or bespoke projects
Ability to lead commercial processes autonomously while mentoring junior team members
Confident stakeholder management skills, particularly with clients and key subcontractors
Experience in the water or utilities sector would be advantageous, though not essential.
The Senior Quantity Surveyor will be offered an exciting position that comes with a competitive salary & package that includes:

Starting salary £55,000 – £65,000 (depending on experience)
£5,000 Car allowance or company car
Private healthcare
Pension scheme
25 days annual leave + bank holidays
This is an excellent opportunity to join a flagship project with a contractor that invests in its people and offers genuine long-term career progression.
